The malaria training program

In an intensive two-day training course, around 30 participants – mostly doctors, nurses, health workers, and village health teams – receive all the necessary information and an easy-to-follow application program on the most important topics related to malaria.

The concept has already been successfully implemented in three districts: Rubirizi, Bushenyi, and Kamwenge. It has been used regularly there since May 2025. Feedback from the field clearly shows that the program is effective. The trained trainers report noticeable successes – not only in prevention, but also in the treatment of malaria.

Objective: Multiplier effect

The objective is clear: all participants should pass on the knowledge they have acquired in their local and regional areas. They offer their own workshops, produce the resources locally and distribute them, and explain the possible uses to the local population. This creates a multiplier effect, a genuine grassroots movement that extends far beyond the original training.

Who are our partners: Cooperation on equal terms

Our partners are local CBOs (community-based organizations) and NGOs that want to offer information and concrete assistance to their target groups in addition to their existing projects.

Why local organizations?

Working with local NGO structures offers decisive advantages:

  • Trust and acceptance: Local organizations already have established relationships with the communities.
  • Motivation: Within existing teams, there is a high level of motivation to support members and target groups in health issues.
  • Sustainability: The existing structures and trust within the team help to ensure the sustainability of the project.
  • Finding the best trainers: Local NGOs know the most suitable people who can act as multipliers.

This participatory approach ensures that the project is deeply rooted in the communities and does not remain dependent on external aid.

Outlook: New regions, new hope

Andrea Ristl will be back in Uganda in December 2025 and January 2026. There is an opportunity to implement the successfully tested concept in other regions and reach even more people.

What is needed for a new region?

The requirements are manageable and practical:

  • Approximately 30 participants (doctors, nurses, village health teams)
  • Training room
  • Ideally, internet access and a screen
  • Clarification of who will cover the costs of meals and transportation for the participants

All training materials and necessary information will be provided in full by Andrea Ristl.
